EWR - "Double Traverse" of Antarctica
In mid-November four vehicle will start off from Novo and drive to “South Pole”. From South Pole, three of those vehicles will head towards Scott’s hut (near McMurdo) and attempt to follow his route down “Beardmore Glacier”. The Beardmore Glacier has now huge open crevasses and considered extremely difficult to cross. If successful the team will continue the expedition and finish crossing Antarctica.
On the return journey the team will follow another more conventional route to South Pole. From the South Pole the team will continue back to “start line” where it will be met by another team from EWR on two more Arctic Trucks vehicles, competitors in the South Pole Race and a crew from BBC making a special TV program. The EWR teams will then head back to South Pole in two teams, one of them supporting the ski race and the other one supporting BBC production.
After reaching the South Pole, all the vehicles and the EWR teams will drive back to Novo and expect to be there in end of January 2012 after nearly 10 weeks of travels. On the return drive two vehicles will drive to SANAE station, instead of driving back to Novo.

Update

JAN 10Gísli and I are doing fine – everything has slowed down since we are following the BBC crew that is filming a show here on the high plateau of Antarctica. We only drive close to 30-40 kilometers pr. day.

DEC 31They made it the Pole of Inaccessibility! Here is a comment from Tony Martin:
"It’s day 39 on the 30th December and we have arrived safely and quickly at the Pole of Inaccessibility.

DEC 30After waiting for some day at the Start line we got a bit bored, and decided to take off to the Pole of Inaccessibility! This is not a very long trip, close to 500 kilometers each way.
