The flight from Novo to Cape Town has been delayed due to bad weater so Eyjó and Geiri who had hoped to get back home to their families in Iceland before Christmas will be spending this Christmas travelling!  So sorry guys - this just shows how unpredictable Antarctica can be!

DEC 19

The KNGS expedition has returned to Novo. They drove back from the South Pole in 5 days. The driving conditions were bad some parts of the way so they could not drive very fast because of bad visibility. The weather in Novo had been extremely bad the days before and the KNGS expedition caught some part of that. This expedition took 16 days total and they had to fight some problems during the way, due to the bad weather and some car problems.

Eyjó is really happy to be back and now he is waiting in Novo for the flight to Cape Town which hopefully will get him home to his family before Christmas.   Because of the bad weather in Novo some flights have been delayed during the last few days.  He just keeps his fingers crossed!

Congratulations Eyjó and the Kazakhstan team for making it to the South Pole and back!

Update from Eyjólfur

We went to the South Pole last night. There was a celebration because of the 100 years anniversary Amundsen‘s arrival at the South Pole.  The Norwegian prime minister was there along with a group of people. We were not invited to the party though! But we took a lot of photos at the South Pole of course.

We are now preparing the journey back to Novo and we are planning to take off in about an hour, which is two days earlier than planned. We heard some new about our flight coming to Novo sooner than expected and we do not want to miss that!

We are now planning to drive to 83 degrees and then rest. If everything goes as planned we will be back in Novo in 5 or 6 days.

Best regards to you all!
Eyjó

Update from Eyjólfur

We are now only few kilometers from the South Pole. I finally got a few hours’ sleep after driving for more than 24 hours.  We have not been able to travel as fast as we planned, due to trouble with one of the cars. This has slowed us down and I have not got much sleep during the last few days. It was there for much appreciated to get a few hours’ sleep now!  And I was also very happy to be woken up by my colleagues Gísli J. and Gummi! They are now starting their journey down the Ross Ice Shelf and I was very extremely happy to see their faces for few minutes before they left!

Our plan is to be at the South Pole for the celebration on December 14th, but start our journey back later that same day.  Hopefully the drive back will take shorter time.

Best regards to you all from the South Pole!

Eyjó

The KNGS expedition left Novo yesterday. They were planning to drive 100 kilometers to day and reach Thorshammer.

The Arctic Trucks guys who are still in Novo are busy making sure that all the cars are ready to tackle the harsh environment of Antarctica and planning transportation for parts and equipment for the ongoing expedition.

Arctic Trucks now has people participating in three different expeditions on Antarctica!

NOV 30

Update from Eyjólfur

We have been using the last few days to prepare for the expedition ahead. We have also been arranging transport for parts to Gísli Jóns in the EWR expedition.  The weather in Novo is good, the sun is shining and we are getting tanned!  The guys from Kazakhstan will be arriving tonight and we will start the expedition when everything is ready.

Best regards to you all!
